Just between you and me? These bankers would probably make more sense if they were police officers. Do you think we paid for these gems? --- In life, just like in Survivor, you need to move forward. But you're always being blocked by something. In this case, you're being blocked by a bunch of angry bankers, because those gems you have are totally not yours. Why are there bankers blocking your path, and why do they care about your gems? Good questions, don't bother worrying about them. However, these bankers are rather petty. If you give them the least amount of gems, you'll be removed from the challenge. This can result in multiple failures at the same time. There are 17 bankers, and you have 1,500 gems total each. However, some old habits die hard, so you'll be facing a double elimination. The person on both tribes who makes it the farthest wins immunity, and both tribes will attend Tribal Council. If multiple people are removed from the challenge at the same time and this causes no one on a tribe to be left, no one on that tribe will be immune. You are competing against everyone, but only one person from each tribe will be Immune.
To be clear: = Submit to your confessional a list distributing your payoffs to the bankers, i.e. Banker 1 - 5 gems, Banker 2 - 10 gems etc. You have 1500 to spend.
= Each banker will be evaluating their cut individually, and will eliminate the cheapest player(s) across all 18 players. = The player on each tribe who makes it the farthest will win individual immunity.
You have 24 hours, friends. One last thing - you may absolutely talk to your tribe about this challenge. Lie, cheat, and steal your way to Immunity like real thieves! You are still not allowed to PM the other tribe, however. So if you wish for the other tribe to know what you're doing, you must post it in this thread.
We understand this explanation is confusing, please refer to the plain English version below for clarity.

"The person on both tribes who makes it the farthest wins"
"= Each banker will be evaluating their cut individually, and will eliminate the cheapest player(s) across all 18 players."
These seem to contradict each other.

Can you explain this to me like we're a bunch of insects who are particularly bad at math without a full example submission?

Plain English Summary:
= You each have 1500 gems.
= There are 17 bankers you must appease.
= Each of you creates a list telling us how much you will give each banker.
= Banker 1 will take her cut first. Whichever player gives her the fewest gems will be eliminated. This is a Bad Thing.
= If two (or more) of you tie for the fewest gems to Banker 1, you will all be eliminated.
= Banker 2 will then evaluate the offerings, and likewise eliminate the cheapest player(s).
= And so on and so forth up to Banker 17.
= The player on each tribe who lasts the longest without being eliminated will win individual immunity.
= If the last two players on each tribe happen to be eliminated together, no one wins immunity.

Okay it was implied that each banker evaluates all 18 players so if I submitted 0 for everybody but Banker 8 then all of the other bankers would cut me and nobody else.

Any benefit/penalty to still having gems, or must you spend them all?

Example list:
Banker 1: 5 gems Banker 2: 10 gems Banker 3: 17 gems Banker 4: 23 gems Banker 5: 52 gems Banker 6: 41 gems Banker 7: 8 gems Banker 8: 77 gems Banker 9: 44 gems Banker 10: 12 gems Banker 11: 52 gems Banker 12: 100 gems Banker 13: 14 gems Banker 14: 92 gems Banker 15: 23 gems Banker 16: 4 gems Banker 17: 1 gem
That won't add up to 1500 gems (as I threw it together with zero strategy or math) but it's the right format. In this case, Player!Pine is eliminated at Banker 7, as everyone else remaining gave 7 more than 8 gems. Strategy, tactics, deception, use whatever you can to get ahead.
Good luck!

Okay it was implied that each banker evaluates all 18 players so if I submitted 0 for everybody but Banker 8 then all of the other bankers would cut me and nobody else. That is not how the game works, I apologize for the confusion. Any benefit/penalty to still having gems, or must you spend them all? If you want to keep some, you do you. There's no benefit to keeping them, they're worthless chips of calcite. No one knows why Bankers prize them. They are a strange lot.

I am throwing the challenge and offering 0 gems. Calibrate your submissions accordingly.

You just want to keep all those gems to yourself, huh? Don't you know they're worthless, Dave!
