Round 5 - #MaggieMoves
--
The tribe swap came as quite a relief to me. I do not think I would have realistically been in grave danger if Dark Olive Green were to attend tribal council, however the tribe environment became stifling and I welcomed the opportunity to spread my butterfly wings and flit about!
The challenge made things tricky though! I always find it hard to balance high-intensity challenges and PMing. Is it a faux pas to be sending PMs to people when obviously that time could have been spent spamposting instead? Is everyone just much better at multi-tasking than I am and social butterflying about while I struggle to even get image tags to work properly?
It is difficult to say. I did make the initial mistake of just writing off Ranger as a bit of a non-entity due to their lack of challenge posting and my initial difficulty engaging them in PMs. However, it turns out that Ranger is actually very entertaining in a low-key way and I enjoy PMing them. I'm glad that my half-bottomed approach to Ranger didn't last because they are going to be an underrated threat in this game, I am sure of it. Of note also is that Zero never once mentioned Ranger as a potential vote target.
Bonobo established themselves to me as a social presence (and someone I would like to connect with) from early on and I find them very entertaining, in a different way to Ranger, more... loud I guess, but still very fun. I probably still feel slightly more connected to Bonobo than I do to Ranger. There's been slightly more openness to our conversations I guess.
So I, embarrassingly, spent the first phase of the challenge thinking that as much as I would love to vote off Zero III, it would probably just be Ranger. I saw the weird public tension between Zero and Bonobo and hoped, but wouldn't let myself hope too hard. But then it turns out that Ranger actually is a worthwhile player. Does the opportunity to vote Zero III open up?
Quite fortunately, it is clear to me that Dave blah blah was actually probably thinking the same thing. It seems as if he was also sitting, waiting for an opportunity to cut Zero, and then when we realised that it was what we both wanted, I think it was a matter of full steam ahead! (I still cannot tell whether Dave actually feels close to me or not)
Conveniently, Zero has not done much to help their case. They have now targeted at the very least both Bonobo and the Lindsays (and maybe me too even, I wouldn't know), and apparently also was complaining to at least Ranger that their allies were on the other swapped tribe (hmmmmm). I am trying to come up with ways in which this vote wouldn't work out, but apart from an idol I'm coming up blank.
I worry that I have been a little too forward with Bonobo and Ranger about wishing to utilise them as connections but it is the most bluntly honest thing I can say and there's something refreshing to me about that. Maybe it'll rub people the wrong way, I don't know, but if someone PM'd me saying "I want to pick you up and use you as a long-term connection in this game", my response would be "I am now going to name all of my succulents after you!"
--
I get the impression that neither of Bonobo nor Ranger feel especially passionate about the Lindsays and that could be an issue in the longer term, especially now that I have been on three tribes in a row with them which is honestly not ideal at all. However, at the very least Dave blah seems quite fond of the Lindsays, which is good.
I do think that being close to Dave blah blah for the medium-term would be good for me, because he clearly is going to be a big player. He has established himself as strong at challenges (and conveniently, better at them than me) and I can tell that he and Bonobo have become close, which is indication of Dave being quite a social threat as well. I will not go to the end with Dave, and will have to make sure he doesn't run the show, but I also need to work on how to establish myself to him as a dependable ally.
