Who decided that having a casino on this Survivor Island was a good use of our time again? This is the second time it's come up.
--- We're probably all familiar with Blackjack, right? Well just in case we aren't, here's how it's played. This is important, because you'll be making a bot to run a few hands, so you'll need to know. First, you'll all need to bet. Wait, you have no money? Urgh... the budget's a bit short.... have 20 cents. The minimum bet on any given hand is 3 cents. Before everyone has bet though, everyone will get two cards. Each card is worth its face value. Jacks, Kings, and Queens are worth 10. Aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever is better for the player. So a 5 and a King would be worth 15 points. If you ever go over 21 points, you lose the round and your bet. If you have two cards that total 21 points (aka and Ace and 10, Jack, Queen, or King), you have Blackjack and win your hand immediately. This applies to the dealer as well (and if both your bot and the dealer score blackjack, you'll tie). If not, you have a few options: HIT - This draws you an extra card STAND - You stop drawing cards DOUBLE DOWN - Doubles your current bet and draws you one last card SPLIT - If you have two cards of the same kind (so two 4s or 2 Kings, etc.), you can split the hand into two and play it like it was two distinct hands. You'll also be playing against an AI dealer - they play with one card open for all to see, and one card face down. If the dealer ever has an Ace, 10, Jack, Queen, or King, they check their face down card for blackjack after the bets are in. The dealer always hits on 16 or less and stands on 17 or more. If your score beats the dealer without going over, you win twice what you bet. If you get a Blackjack, you win three times what you bet. If you score the same as the dealer, you get your bet back. Here is all the information you have to use to make your bot: - Your current hand
- Your current cash total
- The dealer's current hand, minus his face down card
- How every prior hand between you and the dealer has played out in full
Your bots are also all old and out of date - sorry, that's all we could get - but that means you don't have access to anything the other players are doing, their cards, or their cash total.
If at any point you cannot make the minimum bet, you are removed from the challenge. When submitting your bot, you may also submit when you would like to cash out. When you cash out, you will not play any more hands, but you will not be removed from the challenge. We'll play 10 hands - the player's bot with the most money wins Immunity! In case of a tie, the tied player's bot that had the single biggest payout will win. If a tie persists, no players will win Immunity. You may not discuss this challenge with other players. One last thing - any pennies you have leftover will be used in the next challenge. You have 24 hours to build your bots!

A couple notes for everyone:
1 - We'll be using 3 decks together for dealing, but the deck will be shuffled every other round.
2 - Every bot will be play each hand with the same cards, in order to minimize RNG (it's like each bot has their own blackjack miniverse!)
3 - This challenge may take a while to get results going, so the faster we get all the bots, the faster we can get all the results!

Clarification - you are allowed to have your bot walk away with the starting cash, and not participate in the challenge if you wish.

Clarification - when you split a hand, you place an additional bet on the second hand equal to the original bet.
Also, for the sake of our sanity [and timely results], we're limiting splitting to four times per hand.

We are also not allowing the surrendering of hands.
You play every hand until you decide to cash out.

Quick update on this; we're modifying rule 1 to shuffle every round rather than every other round. This is to ensure that all bots draw the same hand every time regardless of how many times they drew cards the round before. 1 - We'll be using 3 decks together for dealing, but the deck will be shuffled after every round. If this impacts your bot at all, you're welcome to make changes!

The dealer always hits on 16 or less and stands on 17 or more. This rule counts aces as being =11 unless that brings the total to over 21. So a dealer will stand on Ace + 6, because that =11+6=17 as far as this rule is concerned.

A quick reminder that we would really appreciate you getting these bots in a while in advance! This is partially so we can run the simulations and not delay deadline too much (it takes a while) but also for your benefit: if we spot something that doesn't make sense in your bot or a condition that your bot doesn't cover and it's still pre-deadline, we'll message you about it and ask you what you meant. If it's post-deadline, we will just follow the bot as best we can, glitches and all. And we do have to catch the error pre-deadline to ask you about it, not just have it be submitted pre-deadline. The earlier you submit, the better the chance we catch this stuff

Quick pre-results heads up - we'll be revealing this round by round, with details on what happened. If you think we misadjudicated your bot, ping us on discord ASAP (or post using @ admin without the space in this thread) and we'll look into it.
